The "Simplified Introduction to Latex" was written by Harvey J. Greenberg http://www.cudenver.edu/~hgreenbe/ It was first posted at CTAN in 1999. The current version here is February 19, 2006. The file simplified-intro.ps is the postscript file, and simplified-intro.pdf is the pdf file, both designed for 2-sided printing. This is a quick entry to Latex, originally designed for students in an undergraduate seminar. Basic objectives and scope are given in its Preface. I request that you reference my book when appropriate; its Bibtex entry is: @book{Greenberg, author = "H.J. Greenberg", title = "A Simplified Introduction to {\LaTeX}", publisher = "World Wide Web", address = "\url{http://www.cudenver.edu/~hgreenbe/aboutme/pubsrec.html}", year = "1999--2006", note = "Also available at \url{www.ctan.org/tex-archive/info/simplified-latex/} and at \url{samizdat.mines.edu}" } (You need to have \usepackage{url} in your preamble, described in my book.) I welcome comments for future updates. The zip file includes a bibliography style file, plain-annote.bst, which adds the annote field to the standard plain.bst (described in book). This is to enable an annotated bibliography.
